Standard 3: Learning Environments

Candidates facilitate learning by creating, using, evaluating, and managing effective learning environments.

S. 3.1.

Creating

Candidates create instructional design products based on learning principles and research-based best practices.

Artifact

EME 6208 / Spring 2019 / Instructional Video

This artifact is an instructional video on the topic of stress. In the development of this video, I created a production plan, wrote the script, and shot and edited the video. I shot video in multiple locations using my iPhone and edited the footage together using iMovie. I also used Audacity to record narration and incorporated public domain music found online. This artifact demonstrates my ability to create and execute a plan, use various programs, as well as use Mayer's design principles like coherence, signaling, redundancy, and personalization.

S. 3.2.

Using

Candidates make professionally sound decisions in selecting appropriate processes and resources to provide optimal conditions for learning based on principles, theories, and effective practices.

Artifact

EME 6457 / Spring 2020 / Online Practicum

These artifacts represent the Professional Communication course I developed and conducted for Distance Learning. In developing this course, which I created in Canvas due to its ease of use, I implemented best practices, such as aligning assessments with objectives, fostering engagement and interaction, and allowing students control of their learning experience. I also incorporated a survey after the first module as well as at the end of the course in order to gather feedback from participants. This project demonstrates my ability to develop and implement an online course from start to finish.

S. 3.3.

Assessing/Evaluating

Candidates use multiple assessment strategies to collect data for informing decisions to improve instructional practice, learner outcomes, and the learning environment.

This is a front-end analysis (FEA) that my group completed for the Comprehensive Sexuality Education course that we developed. For this task, we distributed a survey to the target audience, which we had access to through one of our group members, to gather information about their prior knowledge on the subject of sex education and how to address related topics in the school setting. We also worked with a SME, which we again had access to through a team member, to develop a needs analysis based on the feedback we received. This demonstrates not only my ability to collect data and make decisions based on that data, but my ability to work in groups and with various stakeholders.
